“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” - MLK Jr.
Ossining Parents Advocating Collectively for Our Children (OPACC) is a parent advocacy group of more than 100 families who are dedicated to supporting the needs of black students in the Ossining Union Free School District (OUFSD). Started in 2006 by a group of black parents who were inspired to take action to define and remedy the opportunity and access gap, OPACC's push for equity in education continues today.
Research has shown that parent involvement is critical to a child’s academic success. OPACC is focused on actively supporting parents in their efforts to boost equitable educational opportunities for their children. OPACC empowers parents in their efforts to demand equitable educational opportunities for their children by providing access to the information, tools and language necessary to be effective advocates for their children.
OPACC's mission is to serve the unique needs of black students in the Ossining School District by advocating for sustainable, systemic changes to the Ossining K-12 education system. We empower parents by providing a network to share information and experiences in order to be proactive and effective advocates on behalf of their children.
OPACC families continue to demand change for the simple and urgent reason that we continue to see inequities in how black students are supported. OPACC continues to have an ongoing conversation with the district.
